Membership Guidelines

The objects of the Dachshund Club of America are to encourage and promote quality in the purebred breeding of the Dachshund and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection; to encourage the organization of independent local Dachshund Specialty Clubs in those localities where there are sufficient fanciers of the breed to meet the requirements of the American Kennel Club; to urge members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as defined by the Dachshund Club of America and approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Dachshunds shall be judged; to do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows, field trials, obedience trials, and earth dog tests; to conduct sanctioned matches and specialty shows, field trials, obedience trials, and earth dog tests under the rules of the American Kennel Club.

Membership is open to serious fanciers who have demonstrated a significant on-going interest in the Dachshund, who are in good standing with the American Kennel Club, subscribe to the objects of the Dachshund Club of America, and agree to abide by the Bylaws of the Dachshund Club of America, its Code of Ethics, and the rules of the American Kennel Club.

 

APPLICATION INFORMATION

vApplicants should document direct involvement in AKC events with the Dachshund breed and or purebred dogs.
vApplications must have attached the written Sponsors Questionnaire of two active members in good standing who know the applicant.

vApplicants who buy dogs for, or sell dogs to commercial outlets will not be considered for Membership.
vIt is the responsibility of the applicant to forward the properly completed Application for Membership and Sponsorship Questionnaire to the membership Secretary of the Dachshund Club of America.
v The name and address of each applicant will be published in the first available DCA newsletter prior to Board review.

SPONSORSHIP GUIDELINES

vSponsors shall be active members of the Dachshund Club of America in good standing, and who know the applicant.
vBoth sponsors may not be from the same household or family, and should be from the applicant's geographic area.
v By sponsoring membership applications, Dachshund Club of America members attest to their personal knowledge of the applicant, including his or her interests in the breed, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The correct membership fee must accompany each application. If an application for membership is returned, the money shall be refunded.

Only eligible and properly sponsored applicants for whom applications have been received by the Membership Secretary will be considered for Membership.

The applicant's name(s) including the names of each applicant's sponsors will be published in the next available DCA Newsletter an a deadline will be published for the submission of written communications to the Board on the qualifications and ethical conduct of individual applicants.

Written comments regarding applicants will be considered confidential communications the Board. However, members will be informed that copies of written comments on an individual applicant will be made available to that applicant immediately on written request by the applicant.

The withdrawal of endorsement by a sponsor prior to the vote of the Board on an applicant;s admission to membership renders the application void, and the applicant must reapply.

An application which has received a negative vote by the Board may be presented by the applicant's endorser (sponsor) at the next annual meeting of the Club and such applicant may be elected by favorable vote of seventy-five percent (75%) of the members present.

I have read and agree with the above and wish to print an application. I understand that I must have two (2) Sponsors and wish to print a Sponsor Questionnaire for each. All applications must be submitted to the Membership Secretary with the correct funds.
